About Steve's Montenegro Info

I am originally from the USA and have been travelling around the world for many years. I came to Montenegro as a tourist but quickly found many things I liked about it, so I decided to stay awhile. Then I found out that there was no hostel in the capital city, Podgorica, so I decided to start a small one myself. I have called it Steve's Place Hostel (very creative, eh?) I am also in the process of starting an NGO which will help educate the people here about abuse, especially emotional abuse. I am disturbed by how many children and teenagers here are hit by their parents, and by how many people accept this as something which is necessary and normal. (While it may indeed be normal, it certainly isn't heathy.) I am also going to continue my work in the area of youth suicide prevention.

In any case Montenegro is a very interesting country for many reasons. I will write more about these later. Now I just wanted to write a very short introduction.

Youth Suicide Prevention

I have heard there have been several recent suicides among students age 16 and under. According to what I have heard, in one case in Podgorica the father was beating his son and the son decided not to suffer any longer so he shot him self. (Janko Dragicevic). In another, a young girl was told by her teacher that she was going to tell the girl's mother about the girl's low grades and the girl was so afraid of her mother's reaction that she hung herself before she went home again.
