Trip to Belgrade
Here are photos from my trip to Belgrade to pick up the first work exchange volunteer from the airport, Carissa, on Feb 8, 2009.
This is inside a nice hotel near the train station which had WIFI.

Map of Belgrade

I had heard that there were still buildings in Belgrade whiich had been bombed by NATO. Here are some of them, very near the train station. It really made me sad to see them, and I felt ashamed that the country I was born in, America has not learned how to use its power and influence more wisely.

This is where you wait for the JAT bus to take you to the airport.

It took about 20 minutes to get there.

I found out you can also take this bus, which costs half the price of the JAT bus, but takes longer.

I got a laugh out of this sign in the airport bathroom. It reads like "Pretty Snooty"

This is where we got off the bus back in Belgrade. It took a little whiile to get back to our hostel near the train station but only about ten minutes.

Here are some pictures of the hostel, called Central Station.

The manager when we checked in, Dragoslav..

This shows the train station. I took it from the door of the hostel.

Back inside the hostel.

Another manager/receptionist.

Walking along the river.

It was a warehouse district, and it is being converted now to shops, bars, discos, etc.

An old chair outside a warehouse, which is still in operation

Remembering Mel, a friend of ours who is not free to travel.

Now some cafes/restaurants

Overall, I was impressed with Belgrade. Again, I feel sad to think of the killing, the bombing, the reliigious wars, etc., in this part of the world. Let's all work together to see that such things never happen again.
