Trip to Trebinje, Bosnia
Trip to Trebinje with Martin

Stopping at Niksic along the way.

The new bus station.

Again they restrict who goes to the bus platforms. This is a problem for several reasons. One is that if you are running late, you can't just run up and hop on the bus and buy your ticket on the bus. You have to first stand in line to get your ticket. (The busses all sell tickets to you directly, by the way if you do get on outside of the bus station somewhere.) Another problem is you can't stand there and wait with your friend or family member and say good bye and give one last hug or kiss just before the bus leaves. In other words, they separate the passengers from their friends and families. As mentioned elsewhere on this site I have been to over 50 countries and this is the first time I have seen this. Even in Dubrovnik, also formerly part of Yugoslaovia (and a city I really did not like), you didn't have a fence, gate or wall stopping you from getting near the busses. Like registering with the police, this seems to be an unncessary left-over from the days of Tito and his dictatorship.I would happily offer my consulting services to the Ministry of Tourism, but so far they haven't asked me for my suggestions! Maybe one day they will! Or maybe they will get tired of me and kick me out of the country. Only time will tell :) Mostly likely, though neither will happen and we will all peacefully co-exist doing our own things in this beautiful part of the world known as Montenegro.

Notice the cigarette in his left hand. The passenger on his right was also smoking. It is funny in a way, but some might say it is inconsiderate of the other passengers, not to mention unhealthy for them. But getting Montenegrins not to smoke on the busses and trains is not a high priority of mine (and obviously not a high priority for Montenegrins either!) Something else interesting about this country is that there is some kind of a custom that if a passenger in the back wants to smoke, they move up front to the seat next to the driver, then open the window and light up! Funny country! Another humorous thing which I witnessed after I went to Bosnia with Martin

Because it was getting dark and the bus was going so fast the rest of the pictures are blurred.
